BIOGRAPHY OF ARTHUR BOWMAN
+ ASTROLOGICAL WRITER +

Arthur Bowman is fifth generation Australian by birth and inclination. Born in Melbourne, now residing in N.S.W. He started his career as a cadet journalist with the Sydney Daily Telegraph but because of financial constraints, abandoned that career in favour of his second love, electronics. He went into the then P.M.G's Department where he studied electronics. He then went to the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology to do the Electronics Engineer's diploma but dropped out on the fourth year.

After some years with the P.M.G's Department, he joined the Electricity Commission of N.S.W. with whom he worked in electronics for nearly thirty years. His interest in astrology started when an astrologer friend came to dinner. Arthur gave his friend a bad time about astrology until the man asked if he had studied the subject. When he admitted that he had not, the man pointed out that it was pure ignorance to argue on subjects where he had no knowledge.

Stung by this rebuke, Arthur studied astrology in order to disprove it but the harder he studied it, the harder it was to disprove it. Some years later, Arthur ran into an old friend who was an editor in the News Limited, an editor with whom Arthur had worked on the Daily Telegraph as a cadet. The editor offered Bowman a column in the Melbourne Truth. Arthur started with the Melbourne Truth and then with the New Idea.

It was not long before his talent as a writer and astrologer was noted and several newspapers and magazines vied for his columns, which were soon being published all over Australia, New Zealand, The United States and the U.K. A prolific astrological writer, his regular features and comments have been published by more magazines and newspapers than any other Australian astrologer.

The magazines and newspapers include:

The Daily Telegraph. The Sunday Telegraph.
Astrological Monthly Review. The Sydney Sun. The Daily Mirror.
T.V. Week. Dolly. Mode. Truth. The New Idea.
The Australian Women's Weekly. The Woman's Day.
The Brisbane Courier Mail. The Hobart Mercury.
The Adelaide Sunday Mail. Best Bets.
The Northern Territorian. (Darwin) The Sunday Times. (Perth)

At the moment he has a column in every capital city in Australia and three columns in New Zealand. One column in the U.K. and one in the U.S.A.

Bowman is widely respected as an astrologer throughout the astrological society of Australia. Widely respected for his vast knowledge of the subject, he has been asked to speak at every convention in Australia for the last ten or so years. Past Presidents concurrently of the Federation of Australian Astrologers (N.S.W.) and S.A.R.S. (Sydney Astrological Research Society) a position he held for three years - an unequaled record in Australian Astrology. Arthur is well known and highly respected in astrology. He was so well known that when Astroflash Australia wanted someone with impeccable astrological skill and writing ability to check their astrological program in France, they sent him to Paris, all expenses paid for six weeks and then retained him as a consultant.

He uses his astrological skills to pick winners at the race track but he is no punter so when he does, he keeps his bets to a $2.00 maximum. Even so, he usually wins thirty or forty dollars on the day. Many people in the media consider Arthur to be such an expert on astrology and the kindred sciences, whenever there are questions involving astrology and astronomy, Arthur is called on to clarify them. He was recently asked to comment on the claims by a London based astronomer that the signs were incorrect. Arthur commented in such a way the astronomer had no choice but to withdraw the remarks.

Many young people write to Arthur for information about astrology and the history of astrology. Some of the predictions Arthur has made include the death of John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. The actual date of the fall of the Whitlam government (some twelve months prior to the fall). He predicted the death of Jack Lang. The ascension of Dr. Jim Cairns to the position of Deputy Prime Minister and the scandal that finally wrecked his career in politics. The death of Johnny O'Keefe, specifically from a drug overdose. The day the drought of 1983 would break. The end of the Mike Walsh show. The rise of Olivia Newton John, Paul Hogan and Peter Allen (and his death). The rise and fall of Bob Hawke. He said that Bob Hawke would become Prime Minister of Australia, even when Mr Hawke was stating quite categorically that he would never enter politics. The seven days war between Israel and the Arab States. The trouble in Lebanon. The "hotting up" of the Gulf war. The decline in use of tobacco and the making of smoking illegal in public places. The spread of AIDS and the mutation of the AIDS virus. The decline and fall of Barrie Unsworth, the "News" show for Graham Kennedy, The rise of Kylie Minogue and a multitude of other predictions, even including predicting that certain people would win Lotto, thus making one man, Wally Taylor of Newcastle an instant millionaire.

Arthur received the 1988 Astrological Monthly Review Commemorative Award for services to astrology. He has other interests beside astrology and electronics. He has an obedience trained dog - a Corgi called Benson (the Corgi is a difficult dog to train) which he and a friend, Glenn Ibbet trained together to the level of CDX (Companion Dog eXcellent) Arthur embraced dog training with as much gusto as he does everything else and trained as an instructor. He went on to become an advanced training instructor. He now instructs at the Springwood Dog Training Club.
