Flying Star Feng Shui by JoAnn Zamora (Blissfully Aware)
Flying Star Feng Shui is the method of Feng Shui taught by Master Joseph Yu. Whilst studying Mathematics at a Hong Kong University, Master Yu’s studies comprised of trying to finding fault and thereby attempt to disprove the whole concept Feng Shui.
This led him to spend hours pouring through the Ancient Chinese texts to ascertain the true method of calculating the energies permeating the premises and its surrounds. Master Yu now travels the world teaching the Flying Star Feng Shui method to his students. His website is http://www.astro-fengshui.com.
In these Ancient Chinese and Indian texts, the planets, sun and moon in the ‘heavens’ are given personalities and their movements are seen to influence mankind’s destiny. This has direct links with Astrology and Numerology as we know it today.
The Flying Star Chart is like a birth chart for your property and therefore requires the following information:
- the degree in which the property faces (this is where the most ‘traffic’ passes)
- the date of construction and
- a floor plan drawn to scale.
It is important that we have the date of construction and direction in which the property faces in order to determine the allocation of stars in the Flying Star Chart.
The Chinese Calendar separates the years into 9 cycles of 20 beginning on February 4 as follows (note that I have added the attributes of the stars for study):
| YEARS | STARS | ATTRIBUTES |
| 1864 - 1884 | 1 – WATER | wisdom, career success, love |
| 1884 - 1904 | 2 – EARTH | illness, obstinacy, abdominal disorder |
| 1904 - 1924 | 3 – WOOD | sickness, robbery |
| 1924 - 1944 | 4 – WOOD | academic success, romance |
| 1944 - 1964 | 5 – EARTH | disaster, tyranny |
| 1964 - 1984 | 6 – METAL | power, nobility, authority |
| 1984 - 2004 | 7 – METAL | prosperity, joy, aggression |
| 2004- 2024 | 8 – EARTH | progress, wealth, health |
| 2024 - 2044 | 9 – FIRE | quick action, stimulating |
The Flying Star Chart is then calculated according to ancient Feng Shui rules and superimposed on a ‘to scale’ drawing of the property. For example, for a property constructed in 1956 and facing 50° (note more traffic flows along the North East side), the following Flying Star Chart is created:

Using the elements associated with each of the 9 flying stars listed above, suggestions for cures are offered for the centre and the 8 directions. The cures can be metal objects (windchimes), moving water (aquarium or fountain), earth (large crystals), wood (plants) or fire (candles or red colour).
As you can probably tell, Flying Star Feng Shui is more complex than other ‘schools’ of Feng Shui and has proven to be the most effective as long as the ‘cures’ are implemented. It is also taught by Lillian Too in her Master Feng Shui course.
